KEN EVANS - FUNERAL TODAY

By Wilf Dooley

The funeral will be on Friday 22nd March at 2.30 at Altrincham Crematorium, Whitehouse Lane. Afterwards at Urmston Mens Club

Ken's daughter Rachel has informed us of funeral details as below. We hope some of Kens old teammates and friends will be able to attend.

Hi Bernard

Dad would love to see you in your club ties as would I. I know his association with the club meant a lot to him and I am grateful to those that can attend and those raising a toast to him wherever they may be.

That's not the first time I've heard the 'porcelain vase' comment - Dad had a way with words.

I look forward to seeing as many of his old friends as possible tommorrow and hearing your memories of Dad - please excuse the tears!

Best wishes

Rachel

Dear Rachel,
A number of us who played Rugby with your Dad for many years at MV are thankful to be able to attend your Dad's funeral tomorrow. I hope it is acceptable to you that we will all be wearing our club ties (that is if we all remember!) as an acknowledgement to our friendship, happy memories and respect for Ken as a rugby player and as a man.
Your Dad's rugby playing mates now live not just all over the UK, but also all over the world in America, Canada, Australia, South Africa, France, Germany, Portugal and Southern Ireland. (We don't count Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland as foreign countries!). Those still with us that cannot travel have expressed their wish to toast your Dad at 2.30 pm tomorrow UK time. It is a sign of the times that 13 of us are too sick to travel and 15 of us have died prematurely through ill health.
Your Dad was a very popular man and much admired rugby player at our club, TMVRFCC known in our day as Metrovicks.
We have many fond memories of Ken and often still smile when recalling incidents involving your Dad. Ken had a gift and was a master of summing up a situation with a few incisive and amusing comments. The strength of a porcelain vase was typical of him when describing the efforts of our supposedly strong men in the 2nd row.
Great Days, Great Memories!

Rest in Peace Ken!

See you tomorrow
Bernard

Afterwards at Urmston Mens Club, 82 Higher Road, Urmston, M41 9AP.

Family flowers only. Donations to Cancer Research.

We received the message below informing us of Kens passing away - A great guy and friend has passed away.

The club will post information and funeral details etc on the Club Website.

Just emailing to let you know that Dad sadly passed away on Sunday. He was always positive and determined throughout his illness but unfortunately his health declined rapidly over the last few weeks.

We are arranging the funeral over the next few days and i will let you know the details.

I'd be grateful if you could let his rugby friends know or let me have contact details for them. I know his association with club and the friendships he made meant a lot to him.

I will miss him terribly.
Best wishes
Rachel
