Trafford MV u13's v Wigan u13's
By Greg Hawkins
After a couple of warm up games TMV u13s had their first venture into this years Lancashire cup against a Wigan side we played against at the end of last season where we lost one and drew one.
After such a great win last week, there was a hint of complacency about MV, but With Wigan having their contingent of rugby league players back it was going to be tough.
TMV started off brilliantly. With fluid and adventurous back play we looked by far the stronger team and a superb run from Brady and a real poachers try from Valentine we looked really strong. And with Luke barrelling over all looked well.
But. We got a bit too cocky and let 2 or 3 tries go begging with white line fever when an overlap was available .
We should have been out of sight by half time but Wigan never gave up. We lost our heads stopped doing our basics and started coughing up tries.
Only sterling performances from the likes of Big Ollie, Fenton and Dan C kept us ticking. And despite some great runs from Daniel Armitage, all too often we were saved by Joe Buckley's try saving tackles.
Not only that. But Joe also was a real leader in holding the attitude together when the lads started losing their heads.
2 tries from Fenton who played like a man possessed kept the scores nip & tuck.
In the second half we put ourselves under too much pressure. A core of guys kept us ticking - Andrew Beales was a pillar - but with two minutes to go we were one down and looked out before 3 swift passes to Joe Buckley led to an unbelievable 30 metre run evading the Wigan defence and leading to a sensational score.
When the final whistle went, a draw was the only fair score for two good, honest teams.
We will struggle to come across a better side and as long as we continue to develop we will be a side to be reckoned with
