Glossop U13's 10 Trafford MV U13's 35

Hello again from the TMV u13’s Brooklands corespondent and welcome to civilisation for those of you living in Ashton.

The TMV boys got in the car for another rural away trip. This week to Glossop. A real rugby club with a good set of lads and parents.

With some league games coming up, and with players back from injury and luxury vacations (Sparky) we had a full squad to choose from and we were keen to try some new combinations. Some of the boys weren’t too happy with being asked to play new positions but with combined rugby knowledge of some 90 years we were happy with the selection.

Glossop were much improved from last season and provided much sterner opposition but from the start our scrum and ruck was much improved allowing the backs to get the ball wide through the new centre pairing of Brady and Sparks which also allowed Joe Buckley a field day with the extra space at full back and leading to two superb team tries finished off with individual brilliance from Joe.

Bear at 8 started to get to real grips with No8 scoring one and setting a try up for Dewi with a great blind side drive from Luke.

For the third week on the trot Dewi was excellent in defence and attack and was a real leader on the pitch.

Paddy was strong controlling the attack and with brave defence but a knock to the head meant bringing Joe Buckley to 10 and Dewi to 15.

We continued to control the game with strong performances from Dan C and Fenton (who did a stint at second row and centre!) and a superb show of commitment from Stan.

After another strong game from Charlie, with strong defence and a couple of sniping breaks, a knock to the leg bringing Paddy back on.

MV maintained there fluidity leading to two excellent tries from Sparky. And we finished off with a strong burst from Archie.

We finished off winners 35-10 and despite some ‘interesting ‘ refereeing the boys really kept their composure- we could all learn from that.

Another strong squad performance. A man of the match game from Jackson and apologies for boys not mentioned. You were all excellent and the season rolls on.
