TRAFFORD MV WIN IN GOOD STYLE 38-5

Trafford MV worked hard to secure this good win as spirited Crosby saw red in second half

Glorious autumnal conditions welcomed the Merseysiders to Trafford MV's green and pleasant pastures as England faced Australia in the Autumn Internationals (England winning convincingly 37-18) and an equally exciting game was played out in Sale. Trafford MV had a monkey on their back with a 4 game losing streak while Crosby had won their last 2 away games. With both teams holding strong mid table positions a close game was expected.
MV had significant changes as Greg Warren and Henry Brownlow returned from University for Cheshire training camp tp strengthen the back division and this proved telling as the game played out. MV started well with 2 early tries but Crosby were up for the game and hit back with a try of their own and MV had a good 12-5 advantage early on. Crosby played well up front with some good strong running from their back row supported well but their back line failed to use any decent ball to good advantage.
MV on the other hand battled well up front with old stager John Kevan always influential and young Owen Knottley showing up well with some good penetrating runs as well as some determined defence. MV made several good chances and if anything they were guilty of butchering several opportunities to cross the white line. They did score before half time for a 19-5 lead at the break but there was still a job to be done in the second period.
With better handling and more direct running lines MV would surely have scored a bag full on another day but today dropped balls and stray passes saw tries go begging. Not long into the second half Crosby lost their No 8 for swinging a punch and his yellow was soon turned to red for abusing the referee. This swung the game and allowed MV to press home their advantage Deserved tries came for Jack Mullarkey, Owen Knottley and Greg Warren as the score crept upward top 38-5.
This was a much needed result for MV and showed what can be achieved with a little direction, some extra pace and determined tackling. This coming weekend MV have a big game against Didsbury Toc H at MacPherson Park (M33 6LR) in the ADM Lancashire Premier League kick off 2.15pm
Trafford MV are searching for local teenage rugby talent to join their ranks. With some great Rugby schools on the area there is a wealth of rugby talent that has not yet reached local grassroot Rugby clubs such as Trafford MV. If you have a youngster interested in playing Rugby Union - inspired maybe by England Rugby or one of our other National sides then please check out our facilities and organisation on our website or contact Greg on 07834 857905
