Trafford MV 34-24 Preston Grasshoppers
By Greg Hawkins
A quality Preston side turned up to Trafford with the expectation of victory but a fantastic Trafford performance put them to the sword.
Preston made the more solid start of the two sides scoring an early try to give them a five point advantage. However, Trafford immediately responded with an excellent finish from Nathan May. Preston then kept their cool and showed their quality to score two quick tries in succession to give them a 19-7 lead. A late Ross Dunleavy penalty pushed Trafford closer to Preston with the score at 19-10.
The second half did not start the way Trafford were after with Preston scoring a try to put themselves 24-10. With them feeling the game was beyond Trafford, Trafford hit back and left the Preston side disbelieving and shell-shocked. Tries from Ethan (x2), Greg and a spectacular individual try from Rory Canham saw Trafford lead the game 34-24. And that was how it ended. A wonderful, spirited performance from Trafford that left, one of the best sides we have ever played, wanting. Perfect preparation for a massive cup game next week away at Rochdale.
